Rapperswil Castle

The castle, with its three towers and main hall, has long been a landmark of Rapperswil.

The painting work was part of a renovation project costing around 20 million Swiss francs, which combines the historic structure with modern technology and a new concept for its use.

Project details

The renovation of Rapperswil Castle serves as a clear example of how heritage conservation and contemporary architecture can be successfully combined. Both traditional and modern coating materials from DOLD were used in the project, which meet the high standards required for demanding renovation and restoration projects.

For example, the concrete surfaces were coated with Protect Art. This transparent protective coating prevents the penetration of contaminants and also forms a hydrophobic and oleophobic surface. At the same time, the impregnation is characterised by excellent penetration and high water vapour permeability, thereby preserving the natural matt appearance of the concrete surfaces.

The white wall surfaces, which create a deliberate contrast to the rubble stone masonry, were painted with Stone Art, a preservative-free, mineral-based interior silicate paint with a cloth-matt finish.
