Project details

In 2025, the penstock of the Grimsel 2 pumped-storage power plant operated by Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG underwent extensive refurbishment. These steel penstocks transport water to the turbines under high pressure and are permanently exposed to significant mechanical stresses and corrosive influences. A high-performance corrosion protection system is therefore essential to ensure the long-term durability of the entire facility.

As part of the refurbishment project, approximately 6,000 m² of the internal surfaces were coated with a high-quality, low-solvent two-component epoxy resin system from Ferrotekt. Following abrasive blasting of the steel surfaces to cleanliness grade Sa 2½, the coating system was applied in four successive stages. With a total dry film thickness of more than 1,000 µm, a durable protective barrier was created that reliably protects the steel structure against corrosion and ensures the sustainable operation of the penstock.
